The PATRIOT Act, which ostensibly violates the 4th and 5th Amendments of the Bill of Rights tramples upon far more freedom than Congress or the President will ever admit to. There is nothing patriotic nor righteous about a set of laws, which violate the founding document of a country. Only a true patriot and defender of liberty would stand up to the PATRIOT Act and work tirelessly to see it abolished. This week when the PATRIOT Act was brought before the Senate for renewal, both Democrats and Republicans led by Democratic Majority Leader Harry Reid attempted to railroad the bill through the upper-chamber.
It is obvious now that the sole voice of the Founding Fathers, in the Senate atleast, is Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky. For over 7 hours on Tuesday, the freshmen Republican worked relentlessly and filibustered the renewal of the PATRIOT Act. It may come as a surprise to Democrats, who blame the concoction of the PATRIOT Act on the Bush Administration and Republicans that the man pushing heavily for the renewal of the bill is Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and not some Republican. In fact, all but a few Democrats passionately support the PATRIOT Act’s renewal as does President Obama!
Back in February, Senator Paul, a valiant defender of civil liberties, was promised that there would be open debate and votes on amendments to the PATRIOT Act. Little did Senator Paul know that the person who made the promise, Harry Reid, would break it months later. Harry Reid has made a career out of stealing from Americans not only their hard earned money but also their freedoms. Lying to Senator Rand Paul was a routine act for a parasitic leech like Harry Reid. Why Harry Reid isn’t deemed to be a terrorist and tortured, while others, who haven’t even had the thought of impeding upon the rights of Americans, have been baffles the thinking man.
Rand Paul called out Reid and company in a speech on Wednesday:
They are petrified to vote on issues of guns because they know that a lot of people in America favor the second amendment, own guns and want to protect it in the right to own guns and the right to have those records not sifted through by the government.
We don’t want a government that eventually will allow for direction of the police towards those who own guns. We don’t want our records to be public. We don’t want our records to be sifted through by a government without judicial review.
They don’t want to vote on this because they know the American people agree with us, and if you polled this question, you would find 80% to 90% of Americans don’t want their banking records, don’t want their gun records to be sifted through by a government without a judge ever giving any approval of this.
Senator Reid, on Wednesday, personally objected to Rand Paul’s amendments which would have upheld the 2nd Amendment and allowed Americans to keep their gun records away from Big Brother. Reid’s objection stemmed from his cowardice and refusal to allow a vote on an Amendment which might draw the ire of gun owners in America.
